Legendary Lawyer Luncheon

This annual luncheon was established in 2005 to pay tribute to a Fellow who has practiced law in Indiana for 50 years or more.  Held in the recipient’s hometown with family and friends in attendance, the award spotlights an individual whose career commitments in areas such as legal ethics, community involvement, public service, and lawyer professionalism demonstrate the high calling and higher achievement of lawyers.  The event is tentatively scheduled for June each year dependent upon the recipient’s wishes and availability.

Randall T. Shepard Award Dinner

This award dinner named for the Chief Justice of the Indiana Supreme Court, recognizes the volunteer contributions made by Indiana attorneys in advancing the state’s pro bono movement.  Co-hosted with the Indiana Pro Bono Commission during the Indiana State Bar Association’s fall meeting, the Randall T. Shepard Award is presented to attorneys who have demonstrated dedication to the development and delivery of legal services to the poor of Indiana and participated in activities which resulted in satisfying previously unmet legal needs or in extending legal services to underserved communities in Indiana.

Awards for commitment to the legal profession are also given by the Indiana Bar Foundation.  The Pro Bono Publico Award recognizes the extraordinary contributions that are made toward ensuring that legal services are available to persons who otherwise could not afford them. The award serves to focus public awareness on the substantial voluntary services rendered annually by Indiana lawyers.  Excellence in providing information that enhances the public’s understanding of the law and the legal system is also recognized by the Foundation through the Law-Related Education Award.
