Fellows of the Indiana Bar Foundation Legendary Lawyer Award

 

This award is annually presented by the Fellows of the Indiana Bar Foundation to one of its members that has demonstrated his or her adherence to the highest principles and traditions of the legal profession, compassion though service to the public in the community in which he or she lives, and practical skills in the practice of law through a legal career of 50 years or more.

The Legendary Lawyer Award is based on the following criteria:

The annual deadline for nominations is December 31st and the recipient is honored at a luncheon hosted in his or her community.

Law-Related Education Award


The IBF recognizes lawyers, law firms or bar organizations for excellence in providing information that enhances the public’s understanding of the law and the legal system.

The recipient(s) shall be actively involved in providing or promoting law-related education activities to the residents of Indiana, be they K-12 students, collegians or individuals not enrolled in traditional education programs (such as prisoners, senior citizens or displaced homemakers, for example).

The methods of disseminating law-related information may include, but are not limited to:

  • books, brochures and other printed materials;
  • video tape presentations;
  • mock trials or other participatory activities;
  • speech, essay or art contests.

Annually nominations are accepted through August and the recipiets are recognized at the Randall T. Shepard Award Dinner co-hosted with the Indiana Pro Bono Commission during the Indiana State Bar Association's annual fall meeting.

Pro Bono Publico Award


Annually, the IBF recognizes the extraordinary contributions that are made toward ensuring that legal services are available to persons who otherwise could not afford them in an effort to promote a more effective delivery of legal services to the public. The awards serve to focus public awareness on the substantial voluntary services rendered annually by Indiana lawyers and will be presented at the ISBA Annual Meeting in the fall.

Awards are given in three categories:

Nominees for the Pro Bono Publico Award should meet one or more of the following criteria:

Nominees may not be employed by an organization that has as its primary purpose the provision of free legal services to the poor.

Annually nominations are accepted through August and the recipiets are recognized at the Randall T. Shepard Award Dinner co-hosted with the Indiana Pro Bono Commission during the Indiana State Bar Association's annual fall meeting.
