Support the Foundation

Give to the Foundation

For the many ways we advance the law and promote the positive image of the Indiana lawyer, we consider the Indiana Bar Foundation to be the “Foundation of Our Profession.” As an active, contributing member of the IBF, you are the true strength behind our work.

The Indiana Bar Foundation is a 501 (c)(3) charitable organization, founded in 1950, to assist the Indiana legal community with educational and charitable programs throughout the state. Our founding purposes are far-reaching:

  • Advancing the administration of justice
  • Promoting the public’s understanding of the law and the legal system
  • Promoting a more effective delivery of legal services to the public at large
  • Supporting the introduction of the law school graduate to the practice of law
  • Encouraging the continuing legal education of the practicing lawyer
  • Enhancing the legal profession’s performance of its ethical responsibilities
  • Awarding and supporting scholarships for the study of law

Today, the IBF continues to renew its commitment as the “Foundation of Our Profession.” The IBF:

  • Provides discretionary grants to increase the public’s awareness of good works by the legal profession in Indiana. Since 1981, the IBF has awarded nearly 500 grants, worth well over $1 million.
  • Annually provides scholarships at each of Indiana’s four law schools (Indiana University School of Law—Bloomington, Indiana University School of Law—Indianapolis, University of Notre Dame, Valparaiso University), and underwrites moot court and client counseling programs
  • Maintains the Indiana Bar Foundation Endowment which is designed to support the operation and grants of the IBF
  • Provides an annual grant to Res Gestae, the journal of the Indiana Bar Association
  • Sponsors annual Law-Related Education Awards and Pro Bono Publico Awards, the President’s Award and 50 Year Award
  • Sponsors the Older Adults Program: each year, funds are designated to reprint Legal Reference for Older Hoosiers
  • Administers IOLTA, the Interest On Lawyer’s Trust Account program which supports pro bono programs throughout the state

With all our success, the potential of the IBF has hardly been approached. Our membership will determine the future progress of the IBF. Your involvement is a contribution we can’t do without.
